Proper Salad Cream

Our Proper Salad Cream is produced in a facility that also handles Celery, Cereals containing Gluten, Fish, Sesame, Soya and Sulphites.

Tangy, smooth, and a little bit dirty - in that perfect Hellm***'s kind of way.

“Salad cream” I said.
“Are you mad?” They said.
“Yes” I said.

We weren’t allowed salad cream in my house growing up, so whenever I got to try it at my best mate’s house, it was a real treat. We'd dollop it on a sandwich (fridge door open because we couldn’t make it quick enough for our teenage appetites) and scoff it down. Man, it was good. But man, was it bad for you! Sooo much sugar and so many seed oils - it was about as bad as you could get.

Hacking this recipe was an absolute must. Once we researched the origins of this classic, we found out that it had fancier days than the reputation it currently holds. Betty Crocker once described it as a posh salad dressing, and it was originally made with cream and eggs - delightful!

We wanted to pay homage to this heritage (as well as nodding to the He**'s classic), so we made sure the taste was proper while using posh ingredients. Simply made with whole eggs, light avocado oil, cider vinegar, mustard, garlic (just a touch), lemon juice (to lighten), a splash of fresh buttermilk (for a touch of class and richness), our mix of plant-based sweeteners, and just the right amount of salt for seasoning.

Enjoy it like you’ve never enjoyed salad cream before - without worrying about the sugars or seed oils. Because, as the name suggests, this is proper by nature and posh by ingredients.
